Joel Edgerton: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

4. Dave Flannery - Wish You Were Here

With Wish You Were Here, Joel Edgerton took his career in more naturalistic directions than ever before. More than a few scenes see him stood with a look of nervous exhaustion etched on his face, struggling to decide what course of action to take next. While holidaying in Cambodia with his pregnant wife and friends, Dave (Edgerton) finds himself caught up in the mystery of the disappearance of their friend Jeremy, last seen during an ecstasy-fueled party. With revelations of infidelity and a plot thread involving child prostitution, the events increasingly come to bear on him as the truth of what transpired begins to reach the cold light of day. Edgerton's performance dominates Wish You Were Here from start to finish, each layer of deceit adding to the weight of his portrayal of a man loaded with secrets and grasping with the truth. It's one of his least known roles, and also one of his best.
