Joel Edgerton: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

5 Awesome Performances...

5. Ramses - Exodus: Gods And Kings

Exodus: Gods And Kings marked yet another low point in the career of the once-great director Ridley Scott. Overlong, overblown and surprisingly weak when it came to spectacle, its poor performance at the box office could signal the nail in the coffin for future Scott historical epics. While the film is certainly hugely flawed, the blame for its failure certainly doesn't lie on the actors, and Joel Edgerton's performance as Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses is a high point. With his shaved head and gold-laden garb he certainly looks the part, but it's his neurotic, rage-fuelled intensity which amplifies the conflicted nature of his character perfectly. Ramses has a tendency to switch on the violence whenever he feels as if guilt or doubt - or a combination of the two - might get the better of his conscience, and Edgerton encapsulates these transitions without ever feeling the need to ham things up.
