John Travolta: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
1. Tony Manero - Saturday Night Fever (1977)
Saturday Night Fever remains a 1970s American classic not only for its gritty story and classic soundtrack, but also the way in which it propelled a minor celebrity to the dizzy heights of Hollywood stardom. Travolta's strut through Brooklyn clutching a can of paint is now one of the most iconic scenes in Hollywood history, with Saturday Night Fever ultimately coming to define the American disco age. But whilst many remember Saturday Night Fever for Travolta's slick dance moves on top of an irresistibly funky soundtrack in a pearly white suit, the film was also a tough, unflinching drama that put a heavy load of emotional weight on Travolta's shoulders. He rose to the challenge convincingly too, demonstrating his talent as a diverse actor as well as someone who could bust a few moves on the dance floor. Travolta was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Saturday Night Fever, a feat he has achieved only once since, for Pulp Fiction. But this star, who has twice been considered for the highest honour an actor can possibly receive, has also had his more unfortunate moments... Listed next are those performances where Travolta looked further away from that prestigious golden Oscar trophy than Tommy Wiseau.
