John Wick Chapter 4 Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs
Ups...
8. The STUNNING Action Sequences
If you thought the third movie had taken the series' action to a place that couldn't be topped, brace yourself, because the action sequences in this movie are freakin' incredible.
Without going into too much detail, there are two separate set-pieces which last around a half-hour each, with body counts in the literal hundreds.
And while that might sound potentially exhausting, there's so much dynamism to the fight choreography, weapons, and locations, that it never stops feeling fresh.
This is a stupendously ultraviolent film that somehow doesn't become numbing over almost three hours: from fistfights to gunfights, car chases, and an especially inspired fight on a long flight of stairs, this is a movie with an acute understanding of dynamic action design.
Director Chad Stahelski continues to introduce wild new tricks into the series' action repertoire, and the result is basically an instant action classic.
