John Wick Chapter 4 Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs

7. Keanu Reeves Gives His Best Performance As John Wick

John Wick: Chapter 4
Lionsgate

Though the John Wick movies are reliant less on Keanu Reeves' acting chops than his sheer physical prowess, Chapter 4 affords him the ripest opportunities to flex both.

No, Chapter 4 isn't a particularly complex character study by any means, but clearly leans into the dryness of John's personality and has a lot of wink-wink fun milking Reeves' perhaps intentionally stilted line readings.

In the action stakes, Reeves may not be as spry as he was when the franchise started, but he nevertheless gives his most physically demanding performance in the role to date, hurling himself into the balletic fight choreography with impressive gusto for a man close to 60 years of age.

On one hand the human layers of John feel more apparent than ever in this sequel, but Reeves has also never felt more convincing as a relentless killing machine.
