John Wick Chapter 4 Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs

5. The Awesome Score & Sound Design

John Wick Chapter 4 Keanu Reeves
Lionsgate

While this movie is an absolute must-see on the big screen for its eye-popping visuals, the aural experience is an equally tantalising proposition.

Where to begin? Tyler Bates and Joel J. Richard's musical score remixes the series' theme and various leitmotifs to entrancing effect, while introducing some fantastically cool, soothing synth work to boot.

There are also a number of existing songs featured throughout the movie - particularly during one especially brilliant sequence - though spoiling any of them would be criminal.

Beyond that, the movie's overall sound design is masterful and, in a just world, would merit Oscar consideration later in the year.

The gunshots in this movie are blistering, while the various fight scenes have a visceral soundfeel to them that makes them seem tactile and realistically brutal at even their most outlandish.
