Throughout the film, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is occasionally seen speaking with a Gotham City social worker, played by actress Sharon Washington.

But keen-eyed viewers might notice that her work badge reveals her name to be "Debra Kane," as is most certainly a reference to Batman co-creator Bob Kane, who has been referenced either subtly or overtly in just about every piece of Batman media in existence.

Between Kane and writer Bill Finger, the Caped Crusader was birthed in 1939, and less than a year later, the pair collaborated with artist Jerry Robinson on the creation of Batman's most iconic arch-nemesis, The Joker.
