Joker: Every Easter Egg & Reference We Spotted

1. Send In the Clowns

A ton of period music is employed throughout Joker, often to disarmingly ironic effect - such as the iffy use of Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll Part 2" as Arthur dances on the steps near his home - yet it saves the most fittingly bleak record scratch for the end credits.

After Arthur ends up incarcerated at Arkham State Hospital and is presumed to have killed his care worker Debra Kane, Frank Sinatra's smooth hit "Send In the Clowns" plays us out and into the credits.

The song was used extensively in the film's marketing campaign, and its emphatic, punctuating use at the end of the movie ensures it concludes with a potent exclamation point.
