Julianne Moore: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
And 5 Performances That Sucked...
5. Callie Ferris Next
2007's Next was an embarrassment for almost everyone involved, including director Lee Tamahori and critic-proof star Nicolas Cage. However, at the sharp end of all the ire was Julianne Moore, who plays FBI Agent Callie Ferris and really should have known better. Next has a great premise dealing with a Las Vegas magician (Cage) who finds out he can see into the future, who's then pursued by an FBI agent (Moore) who wants to use his amazing abilities to prevent a nuclear terrorist attack. It's shocking that Moore is bad in this film because it's a role she could do brilliantly a great but overworked FBI agent being dragged into a mess she really doesn't want to and also being under the stress of dealing with an imminent terrorist attack that could destroy her country. Unfortunately, she's just wrong for the role and decides to make Ferris into an all-out action girl, which just doesn't work at all. Moore works best when she's in a supporting role and is given some acting to do here she just fires off her gun whilst sprouting cliche "we don't want to hurt you, we just want to help!" lines at Cage, who Cages up the film in the worst possible way. It's hard to believe but she actually comes off more fake than her co-star, which is a phrase nobody ever expected to read and I never expected to write. Let's chalk this one down to "mortgage repayments," shall we?
