Jungle Cruise Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. The Generic Action Sequences

Though there are certainly some entertaining action beats throughout the movie, overall the set-pieces lack the imagination and energy you'd hope for from such a large-budget project.

Director Jaume Collet-Serra is a capable stylist, but there's surprisingly little in the way of sustained action throughout the movie, and even potential-riddled moments like Prince Joachim (Jesse Plemons) manning a submarine machinegun are over before they can really be savoured.

It is, perhaps somewhat appropriately, not unlike a Disney theme park ride - dependable and safe, but doing little to truly leave the heart aflutter.

These issues aside, though, Jungle Cruise delivers solidly undemanding thrills for audiences of all ages...
