Jungle Cruise Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
4. The Fun Twists & Turns
While Jungle Cruise doesn't venture far off the map story-wise, there are a couple of unexpected kinks in the movie's narrative which make it a fraction more surprising and engaging than it otherwise would be.
Without getting into story specifics, the presentation of villainous mercenary Aguirre (Édgar Ramírez) is more involved than the marketing suggested, and another major character also has a more involved backstory than audiences are likely expecting.
The backbone of the film's narrative is still completely foregone, for sure, but there are just enough wrinkles here to ensure it doesn't feel like a total facsimile of what we've seen before.
