In the opening scene of the original film, Jophery the gatekeeper was pulled from Muldoon's grip by the Velociraptor being moved into the special pen. The scene gave but a taste of how cunning and dangerous the raptors were long before they received their full introduction and cast the entire movie with a foreboding sense of danger that would underline all the initial wonder of the park's reveal later in the film. It's a memorable and effectively tense start to the film, its brutality shining through in Spielberg's less-is-more approach to what he allows the audience to see, whether it's the repeated close-ups of Muldoon's mouth as he yells, "Shoot her," the focus on the raptor's eyes or the chilling finality of Jophery's hand slipping away.
