Jurassic World: 10 Obscure References You Totally Missed

8. Sparing No Expense (But Not Like Hammond)

The Reference: There's countless iconic quotes from Jurassic Park that World references (the reuse of the word "respect" has even made way for a fan theory linking Chris Pratt's character to the original), but few are used as effectively as "spared no expense." John Hammond's mantra is repeated by new park funder Simon Masrani several times throughout the film, with it feeling less genuine each and every time. What It Really Means: The repetition, even when it becomes clear Masrani isn't as idealistic as he initially comes across (or, rather, would like to be seen), is a nice send up of big business and highlights how Hammond was the singular ethical power behind the Jurassic enterprise. However, it also serves as a parallel to another Jurassic Park character - Donald Gennaro. The lawyer is originally all about safety, but once he sees the financial potential in Hammond's idea he quickly drops it in favour of chasing the money - an arc not disimillar to Masrani's.
