Jurassic World: 10 Obscure References You Totally Missed

4. The Other Hybrids

The Reference: One big focus of debate in the lead-up to Jurassic World's release was the Stegoceratops. A theoretical mash-up of a Triceratops and Stegosaurus, the un-Godly creation is part of Hasbro's tie-in toy line, yet oddly absent from the film. Well, sort of - when Owen, Claire and the boys find themselves in the now-evacuated genetics lab there's screens showing all manner of dinosaurs, including the Stegoceratops. What It Really Means: This isn't just the justification for merchandise, but the remnant of a major plot element that was cut from the film. There was originally going to be a scene with the Stegoceratops in the wild of Isla Nublar, showing the extent of Dr. Wu's uninhibited meddling, but it was removed to keep the focus on the Indominus Rex. To read more about this omission, check out our news piece on it here. Of course, in practical terms, this also leaves the door open for more varied hybrids in the sequel. After all, who knows what the embryos that Wu got away with were. Expect that "playing God" aspect to be explored further as time goes on.
