Jurassic World: 10 Obscure References You Totally Missed

5. The Embryos Once Again Hint At Sequel

The Reference: The only character from the original film to return for Jurassic World is B.D. Wong as park geneticist Henry Wu. Here he's a less morally upstanding character, mucking about with dino DNA mainly because he can. He's last seen in the film leaving Isla Nublar with the frozen embryos of various dinosaur species, a direct reference to Dennis Nedry and his goal when shutting down Jurassic Park in the first film. What It Really Means: This is the easiest way to build a sequel without having to create a bunch of new plot points - InGen are now in possession of various dinosaurs ripe for militarisation. But in having that set up, it's a direct challenge to one of the odder story beats from Jurassic Park. The embryos were a key MacGuffin in the first film, the cause of the whole disaster, but upon the death of Nedry were dropped completely - they were covered in mud and never recovered. Many assumed this was Spielberg leaving some room for a sequel, but it never amounted to anything. Having their Jurassic World equivalent also disappear from the narrative in the third act to potentially leave the door open for more adventures is thus a nice parallel.
