Jurassic World: 8 Big Clues Hidden In The TV Spots
7. John Hammond Casts A Shadow Over The Film
In Jurassic World, only one actor returns from the original trilogy: B. D. Wong, reprising his role as geneticist Dr. Henry Wu (he was the one overseeing the Raptor eggs in Jurassic Park). Everyone else is otherwise taking a break, although there will still be references to the absentees. Early drafts of what was then Jurassic Park IV were to see a comeback for Richard Attenborough's John Hammond, the eccentric billionaire behind the whole project. By the time the fourth film in the series began filming, hwoever, Attenborough's declining health and then passing in 2014 meant there was no way for him to return to the franchise, but the Jurassic World writers have at least found ways to keep the Hammond character integral to the story. In addition to narrating some of the TV spots and trailers, you can see in one shot that part of the park is named in honour of Hammond, and that a statue of him with his signature walking stick looms large over the tourists. It seems as though Hammond is gone but not forgotten, with the mastermind behind Jurassic Park now acting as a kind of legendary creator figure.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
