17. Ian Slid Into Ellie's DMs

There are many, many embarrassing one-liners throughout the film, but nothing that induces thermonuclear levels of cringe quite like one of the first exchanges between Ellie and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) upon reuniting at the Biosyn facility.

Alan expresses surprise that Ellie and Ian have kept in contact over the years, before Ellie announces that Ian "slid into her DMs" - a phrase that the tech-weary Alan doesn't seem to understand.

While clearly intended to underline Ian's ongoing, decades-long crush on Ellie, namedropping Twitter ultimately just feels like a low-effort attempt to contemporise the legacy characters.

Nobody asked for this, and making Oscar winner Dern say such a wretched line is borderline sacrilege.
