Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - 20 WTF Moments
11. Maisie Is A Clone Of Lockwell's Dead Daughter
Perhaps nothing in Fallen Kingdom is more bizarre than the revelation that Lockwood's "granddaughter" Maisie (Isabella Sermon) is in fact a clone of his dead daughter.
This is first hinted at when we glimpse an old photo of Maisie's nanny Iris (Geraldine Chaplin), who is holding Maisie yet inexplicably appears many decades younger in the photo.
This peculiarity is left to linger for a good half-hour before it's confirmed that, yes, Lockwood had his dead daughter cloned, a plan he couldn't set in motion until John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) died due to their disagreement about the ethics involved.
Once the twist is revealed, it's basically left to linger like a bad fart without really being addressed for the rest of the movie. The sole reasoning seems to be that it creates a sympathetic link between Maisie and the dinosaurs leading up to the climax, but...was there really not a less-clumsy way to make that sequel-bait ending happen?
It's just staggering that Trevorrow and Connolly felt that this series really needed to introduce human cloning. Could they be opening the door for some human-dino hybrids in the future? Gross.
