Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - 9 Big Questions The Trailer Raises

7. Which Side Is Doctor Ian Malcolm On?

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom gave fans their first look at Jeff Goldblum as Doctor Ian Malcolm since 1997's The Lost World, and that was cool and everything, but which side is the chaos theorist actually on?

While addressing an official government panel on the matter of the dinosaurs' impending doom, Malcolm seems to sit on the fence regarding whether they should be saved. "These creatures were here before us, and if we are not careful, they are going to be here after," he says, before delivering his "life finds a way" catchphrase.

Sure, the good doctor is warning the panel about the potential pitfalls of intervening on Isla Nublar, but he stops short of telling them whether he thinks the dinosaur clones deserve to be protected, at least in the trailer footage.

Malcolm has more reason than most to be wary of the dinos, having been almost eaten by them on two separate occasions, but does that mean he's happy to condemn them all to a fiery fate? Who knows?

Whichever side of the argument he happens to settle on, you can bet it will hold a lot of weight with the powers that be, given that Malcolm is an expert in his field and one of the few people to have walked with the dinosaurs and lived to tell the tale.
