The movie ends, then, with Owen and his kids boarding a helicopter and leaving the island, because references like that are cool. Owen vows to be a better dad, although the kids already think he's the coolest person in the world right now because he just led velociraptors into battle, and how many dads can say that? Owen and Claire look at one another and nod knowingly; maybe there's a subtle hint of romance. Maybe. As the helicopter moves away from the island, Claire delivers a super contemplative dialogue cue, like: "We thought we had it this time. We really did," to which Owen will reply with something in the general ballpark of: "That was your first mistake." We watch as a bunch of military jets whiz over the island, dropping bombs and blowing everything to pieces, and John Williams' theme plays over the fire and death in a melancholy way. "Do you think anything will survive?" Clare asks, to which our hero, Owen - battered, bruised, and with both arms around his exhausted kids' shoulders - replies with a cool, sequel-primed line like: "They always do." Like this article?
