Jurassic World Reviews: 10 Early Reactions You Need To Know

9. ...But The Other Characters Are Underwhelming

Chris Pratt aside, the rest of the cast of Jurassic World come in for a harsher time judging from the early reviews. The problem, it seems, lies less in their performances - which are generally considered to be pretty solid if not necessarily inspired - but rather the characters they play. There's always a risk with big blockbuster movies such as these that secondary characters end up becoming stock stereotypes put in the film just so there's plenty of fodder for the monsters to chew on. Bryce Dallas Howard (daughter of film director Ron Howard) earns some praise for her energetic performance as corporate bod Claire Dearing and Vincent D'Onofrio's head of security Vic Hoskins makes a worthy human opponent for Chris Pratt to deal with, but beyond that few characters are likeable or interesting. Mad Max: Fury Road proved that action-packed movies could still feature interesting characters, but the early reactions to Jurassic World suggests that the cast are doing the best they can with a script which is "cringe worthy".
