Jurassic World Reviews: 10 Early Reactions You Need To Know

8. The Nods To The First Movie Are Cute Rather Than Annoying

When returning to a much-loved franchise after so many years there's always a balancing act to be made when referencing what's come before. An appropriate amount of reverence and a few nods and winks in the right place can be a good thing, but if it's shoehorned in the effect can feel forced. It was immediately clear from the trailer that Jurassic World was going to pay homage to the original movie to some degree, although whether this would be done with subtlety or as a tiresome marathon of Easter eggs was unclear. Fortunately the early reviews suggest that the former approach has been taken, with interesting details about the characters and the fictional universe in which the franchise is set taking precedence over more overt references such as repeating lines of dialogue or iconic shots. Not everyone agrees with this assessment, with one reviewer on IMDB stating, "they threw in some nostalgic moments in there but literally stomped all over them." But for the most part, it seems as if the balance between paying tribute to the originals and forging a new path has been struck.
