7. Why Does Steppenwolf Want The Mother Boxes?
The problem with the initial Justice League trailers was their failure to set the stakes. They were focused on banter and action, but failed to offer a compelling reason to explain why the world's heroes were teaming up.
That all changed with the reveal of Steppenwolf in the Comic-Con 2017 footage, but much about the Apokoliptian villain and his motivation is still shrouded in darkness.
It can be gleamed from the trailers that the big bad wants to get his paws on the Mother Boxes, which appear to be the DC movie series' equivalent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Infinity Stones, but to what end exactly?
Much of what the fans know about the Mother Boxes comes from comic book lore, history which may have been rewritten or subtly changed for the films.
An important question Justice League must answer is what will Steppenwolf be capable of with all three boxes in his possession? Some fans have speculated that the scenes featuring a blood-red sky depict the Apokoliptian terraforming Earth to make it more like his homeworld. Could this be his plan all along?
