Justice League: 10 Reasons Christopher Nolan And Christian Bale Should Do It

8. If They DON'T, Somebody Else WILL

brett-ratner This is probably not the most inspiring reason in the world, but let's face facts: after the ludicrous box office of The Avengers, a Justice League movie -- and, by proxy, a "DC universe on film" -- is going to happen sooner or later. Warner Brothers has had a jones for a Justice League movie -- or some kind of superhero team up -- for a while now; they tried to get a "Batman vs. Superman" film going back around 2003, they tried to get a Justice League movie up on its feet in 2009, and until just recently they seemed pretty gung ho to film Will Beale's (apparently terrible) Justice League script -- and all of that was before Avengers' monstrous critical and commercial success. They're dedicated to the idea of a JL film; they've seen how much success Marvel has had, and unless a gang of functionally retarded monkeys is running WB (which, to be fair, might explain some of their decisions...), you've got to think there are people over there going "Don't we have something like that...?" The truth of the matter is that, on a certain level, a movie like Justice League sells itself...and that could mean that the studio doesn't particularly see the need for a powerhouse director. Odds are that under normal circumstances, the director for Justice League would be less Christopher Nolan and more Martin Campbell, or Brett Ratner, or Chris Columbus...not a strong auteur, but a journeyman who will bring professionalism but little personality to the proceedings. (Even Marvel has arguably played it safe in their choice of filmmakers; not to say anything against Kenneth Branagh, Joe Johnson, Jon Favreau, Louis Letterier or Joss Whedon, who are all certainly talented, but I'd argue that the Marvel films have all had a slightly "corporate" -- they look and feel more or less the same, just with slightly different superpowers.) The bottom line here in a Justice League is going to get made, and who would you rather have overseeing it -- Nolan and his team, or a point and shoot man? I'd hope it's the former -- because if nothing else, I'd think by now Nolan and Bale have proven that
