When Steppenwolf is defeated in the flashback sequence that is definitely NOT just a complete rip-off of the Lord Of The Rings, the Mother Boxes are split up between the factions of the army that defeated him for protection.

The Amazonians keep theirs within their kingdom, on a plinth that appears to be heavily defended and monitored. The Atlanteans do the same. This is smart.

Meanwhile, because fantasy properties like this love sticking the boot in on mankind's idiocy, the human king buries the Mother Box to keep it away from greedy other men who would use it to their own benefit (Tolkien's estate must have been very interested in all of this). He doesn't bother to put it in a vault, or bury it in a cave or even wrap a chain around it or something - instead, he and his genius followers bury it a WHOLE FOUR FEET underground.

Way to protect one of the most powerful artefacts in the known galaxy there, fellas.
