It's not terribly surprising that Zack Snyder included a few nods to his controversial 2009 adaptation of Alan Moore's legendary graphic novel Watchmen, though they are pretty easy to miss all the same.

First of all, when Bruce and Diana are discussing the looming threat of Steppenwolf, he rubbishes the idea of humanity banding together to take him down, declaring, "We tend to act like the Doomsday Clock has a snooze button."

Though the Doomsday Clock has been a metaphorical real-life device since the late 1940s, it was featured prominently in Moore's novel to indicate how close humanity was coming to all-out annihilation.

And secondly, later in the movie, Batman wears a Batsuit with built-in goggles, which bears an uncanny resemblance to Nite Owl II's own superhero attire from Watchmen.

Clearly, neither of these flourishes were coincidental.
