Justice League: 6 Major Changes The DCEU Is Making To Fix Itself

6. Johns Thinks Warner Bros. Intrinsic Approach Was Wrong

It's long been accepted that Warner Bros. plan with the DCEU was to be moodier than the MCU, with words like "dark" and "gritty" treated like the key to success. This propagated some rather odd, extreme rumours - they may not have been funny, but moments in Batman V Superman proved the "no jokes" ethos to be made up - but the basic truth was there.

Many objected, especially in regards to Superman, and it seems that Johns was very much in that camp, saying:

“In the past, I think the studio has said, ‘Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different.’ That couldn’t be more wrong.”

I love the bluntness of this, because given how much this pervasive misguided tone has sunk all three movies it needs someone to grab Kevin Tsujihara and the rest of the board and scream them into submission.
