Justice League Trailer Breakdown: 28 Things You Must See

8. Mera! (And Lois Lane)

And now we get our first real look at Amber Heard's Mera, graceful under water and flanked by a couple of Atlantian soldiers by the look of it. Clearly their guns work under water.

Are they guarding the Mother Box? It's unlikely we'll see a great deal of Mera here, but she's set up for a much bigger role in Aquaman of course.

Once more, a MacGuffin is seen shooting a beam of light into the sky, because comic book movies look that gimmick. But at least it's confirmation that there's a Mother Box in Atlantis...

Here's what she looks like in the comic - it's a pretty faithful design...

And just in case you'd forgotten that Lois Lane "is the key", she's hear as well, in a shot so vague it's almost impossible to glean anything from it.

If nothing else, she's here to remind us all of that thing nobody would ever ave forgotten anyway: that Superman is involved, even though he's not in this trailer. His presence still looms large, and Zack Snyder acknowledged him being gone is a big part of things:

"It’s hard to have a Justice League without Superman. That’s how I feel about it. It was always a super-intriguing concept to me to have this opportunity to have him make that sacrifice but also have him be this, in a weird sort of way, the why of Justice League: What do you do now with him? What does the team think? What does the world need? All that comes into play. It’s fun for us but it’ll be interesting for audiences what we do with him."
