The rumor of Tom Cruise as an alternate-reality Tony Stark raises eyebrows.
How much money will the MCU need to shell out to get Cruise under contract and how long will he be on screen? One would assume that his paycheck will warrant much more than a short cameo.
What if in his reality, the Ultron project was actually a successful venture? If world peace is achieved in his universe, he'll certainly fear intrusion from the multiverse as a threat that must be stopped at all costs.
If he's truly Tony Stark, then he’ll have the same “hit them before they hit us” attitude that RDJ had.
Though it's the most unlikely on this list, what if the MCU's next big bad was the greatest hero of the Infinity Saga? While it would be astronomically difficult to pull off as a crowd-pleasing moment, this could give the writers a way to bring back RDJ's Tony Stark via the multiverse.
Will or should this happen? Probably not, but a Tom Cruise casting and the theory that we haven't seen the last of Ultron are two things we should keep a close eye on.
