4. It's A Geek World
Throughout Kick-Ass 2 the characters are very keen to remind us were in the real world. That was a key attraction with the first film, but here it feels forced; you cant just say something's real one moment then have a she-hulk casually destroying cop cars the next. But while we certainly aren't in the real world this time, were in something close; the geek world. Even though the comic book-cafe hybrid is gone and the supporting cast are decidedly less nerdy, theres still a lot of references to popular geekdom, both for the benefit of audiences (Cape Fear gets a nod in a newspaper article on the superhero hunt) and the characters (Batman in particular gets mentioned a lot, but the likes of recent TV series Ultimate Spider-Man also get an aside). Sadly the number of geekisms is lower than in the previous film, showing yet another area Wadlow didn't quite grasp the success of the character, but theres enough here to keep comic book fans happy.
