Kick-Ass 2: 10 Things You Might Have Missed

4. It's A Geek World

Sm Throughout Kick-Ass 2 the characters are very keen to remind us we€™re in the €œreal world€. That was a key attraction with the first film, but here it feels forced; you can€™t just say something's real one moment then have a she-hulk casually destroying cop cars the next. But while we certainly aren't in the real world this time, we€™re in something close; the geek world. Even though the comic book-cafe hybrid is gone and the supporting cast are decidedly less nerdy, there€™s still a lot of references to popular geekdom, both for the benefit of audiences (Cape Fear gets a nod in a newspaper article on the superhero hunt) and the characters (Batman in particular gets mentioned a lot, but the likes of recent TV series Ultimate Spider-Man also get an aside). Sadly the number of geekisms is lower than in the previous film, showing yet another area Wadlow didn't quite grasp the success of the character, but there€™s enough here to keep comic book fans happy.
