3. Boy Soldier
Chris supervillain base is certainly an interesting set up. Not quite as suitable for a final showdown as the originals penthouse, it admittedly has some brilliant elements. The central VIP area with no real divide and the big shark tank (better known as the pool of blatantly obvious foreshadowing) both had their own jokes, but other elements were confusingly relegated to the background. Theres a statue in the VIP area that initially looks like a midget supervillain that will no doubt have perplexed some of the more eagle eyed viewers. Its never referenced, but sneaks into enough shots to make an impact. But what is it? Turns out the statue is a sculpture by British artist Tristan Schoonraad titled Boy Soldier. Known professionally as Schoony hes worked on various Hollywood projects creating models for use in the films, but also does his own original work which is on show. Boy Soldier was made over five years ago based on the artists nephew and is intended to be an anti-war message. The version seen in Kick-Ass 2 is unlike any of the versions that Schoony has showcased before, suggesting a special edition was commissioned for the film.
