Kingsman: The Golden Circle Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs
3. The Script Is A Total Mess
It's clear that the overarching problem with the film is Vaughn and Goldman's script, which feels at once paradoxically low-effort and overly ambitious, throwing far too many ideas into the mix but developing almost none of them in enough detail or with enough entertainment value to satisfy.
The jokes feel lazier than before and many of them straight-up don't land, there's far too much time devoted to Eggsy's relationship with Princess Tilde, there are far too many subplots for the film to juggle and the new characters mostly don't get their due, to name just a few of the biggest issues.
The script feels like a first draft that was instantly greenlit siimply because the original film was a surprise box office hit, when it clearly needed a lot more polish and more time in development.
If a third film does end up happening, which it probably will, Vaughn and Goldman need to spend longer hammering the script, while perhaps reining in the scope and keeping things a little simpler.
