7. The Terror of Dr Hichcock (1962)
In a nutshell, Dr Hichcock is a necrophiliac. He doesn't have sex with dead bodies but he injects his wife with a sedative and plays sex-based games with her, fantasising she is a dead body. One day he goes too far and injects her with too much of the sedative and kills her. He is distraught by her death and leaves his house. After a couple of years recuperation, the doctor returns to his house with his new bride. He finds out that his first wife is still alive but insane and prematurely aged. He gets the idea that he can restore her to her former glory by injecting her with the blood of his new wife... An exalted Italian Gothic horror piece from Riccardo Freda, The Terror of Dr Hichcock managed, for its time, to push several boundaries in making a film about outright necrophilia. Barbara Steele is excellent in the movie. It is astonishing how she can flit from innocent to evil in a second's breath. The settings of the film are incredible as is the lush score. Freda makes good use of technicolour and the film is very stylish. However, it has to be said that the script is plodding and lets the film down considerably but anything with Barbara Steele in it is worth watching. And Barbara Steele + Necrophilia = unmissable.
