14. Full Metal Jacket

Each of the soldiers attached to Packard's squad wear helmets featuring graffiti slogans, as became the convention for soldiers in the Vietnam War. It's hard not to immediately link that image to Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, in which all of the soldiers - similarly disaffected by war to the grunts in Skull Island - and it's not accidental.

Glenn Mills - played by Straight Outta Compton's Jason Mitchell - has the words Born To Breed on his helmet, an obvious inversion of Joker's Born To Kill slogan on Full Metal Jacket.

It also appears that Eugene Cordero's character has a playing card in his helmet strap, which feels like a reference to the Death Card seen in Apocalypse Now.
