Kong: Skull Island - 25 Easter Eggs & References You Must See
6. Dragonball Z
Vogt-Roberts has admitted on the press tour for the film that he's a big fan of Dragonball Z, and you can see some of the show's visual cues in one particular scene towards the end of Kong: Skull Island.
The anime of course features Great Apes, which are very closely related to Kong in size and power, but the call-back to the show seems far more specific than that.
The director frames the climactic fight between Packard and Kong the same way DBZ would frame characters coming into contact with the Great Apes. They would be shot from behind, appearing comparatively tiny on the screen, which is exactly how Packard is framed in Skull Island.
And maybe it's a little in-joke? The show was wildly inconsistent about how big their Apes were, after all.
