The film opens with a prologue sequence showing how John C Reilly's Marlow ends up marooned on Skull Island. His plane goes down, along with a Japanese fighter during the Second World War, with both pilots surviving to take their fight onto the ground. The Japanese fighter is played by Japanese rockstar Miyavi in a cameo that will no doubt delight his fans.

The sequence could actually be deemed to foreshadow Godzilla vs King Kong - slated for 2020 - with two enemies fighting only to inevitably befriend one another by the end to take on another foe.

There's also a cameo for Parks And Rec, Community and Vice Principals actor James M. Connor, who voices General Ward off screen.
