As well as the Akira reference, Marlow's jacket also features another pop culture call out. It's covered in patches, so there may be a few others, but the most notable is a reference to Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver.

The patch is designed as a homage to the fictional military company Travis Bickle fought in during the Vietnam War, the "King Kong Company" as the director confirmed:

That is intentional. And it’s a reference also to “Taxi Driver.” If you look at the patch that Travis Bickle wears on his jacket in “Taxi Driver,” it says “King Kong Company.” If you side-by-side the two images you see the similarity.

Given the issues of PTSD and post-war integration explored in Taxi Driver it's an interesting choice, not strictly linked to Marlow, but certainly in the way Packard's arc plays out.
