Kong: Skull Island Review - 6 Ups & 5 Downs

4. It's Surprisingly Violent

It's pretty surprising what you can get away with in PG-13 movies these days, especially as long as you don't show a drop of blood. There are a ton of human casualties in this film (of course), and while many of them simply involve someone getting munched by Kong or killed by a Skull Crawler off-screen, there are two deaths that stand out as especially gnarly.

One involves a man being graphically impaled through the mouth by a gigantic, spider-like creature, and the other involves a man having one of his arms ripped off by a pack of bird-like monsters, but because it's against the silhouette of the setting sun and no grisly gore is shown, apparently that makes it OK.

One imagines it's still pretty horrifying if you're a youngster, so parents best beware before taking their kids. As for adults? It's unexpectedly brutal fun.
