Kong: Skull Island Trailer: 8 Things You Might Have Missed

3. The Mystery Chinese Logo

The trailer for Kong: Skull Island gives us intriguing questions from the word go, and right off the bat, we can see a logo for a Chinese company called 'Tencent Pictures' alongside the likes of Warner Bros and Legendary.

But what's going on here? We very rarely see smaller companies get top billing in major Hollywood productions, so what gives?

Well, as it turns out, Tencent are slowly making quite the name for themselves in the big-budget space. Aside from aiding in the production of Kong: Skull Island, they invested in this year's adaptation of Warcraft and have struck a deal with The Dark Knight scribe David Goyer to create an entire slate of movies.

Tencent's involvement is also incredibly important for the financial success of Skull Island worldwide. Warcraft made an astonishing $220 million in China, more than half its total worldwide gross of $433 million. With U.S. box-office numbers for many huge studio pictures beginning to dwindle, Hollywood is frequently banking on China to make their films a success, as evidenced by Warcraft and even 2015's Terminator: Genisys.

So isn't it a smart move to not only partner with, but feature prominently, a popular Chinese company on a potentially risky movie? Just this year alone we've had big CGI bombs like Ben-Hur, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows and Alice Through The Looking Glass, and this smart business movie is a way to ensure Skull Island does not follow suit.
