Kong: Skull Island Trailer: 8 Things You Might Have Missed

2. Are Those Kong's Parents?

At one point in the trailer - in a complete 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' moment - we can see what appears to be two smaller ape-sized skeletons laid down in the dirt.

Until we look a little closer...

Upon inspection, we can see our gang of protagonists, who look like ants, walking in between the long-dead pair, meaning that these skeletons aren't smaller-sized at all. They're very much Kong-sized, and that poses an intriguing mystery; who exactly are these apes, and who (or what) killed them?

The most obvious answer is that they're Kong's parents. The fact that they're holding hands hints at some sort of relationship, and they're definitely the right size. In King Kong lore, the majestic ape has a son too - and the child even got his own movie, aptly titled Son Of Kong - so the idea of having a tragic parent/child backstory in Kong: Skull Island isn't entirely out of the question, especially when it would humanize the ape just a little bit more.

It's who killed them that is the more difficult-to-answer question. It could've been one of the many beasts that roam the island, though it's unclear whether these creatures were at peace before the humans showed up. Or, since 2014's Godzilla revealed the government tried bombing the titular lizard, perhaps they tried the same trick with Kong's parents, and it worked - but we'll have to wait for the movie to come out to know for sure.
