Kurt Russell: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Todd 3465 - Soldier

Years after the release €“ and swift box office failure €“ of Soldier, Russell described how he injured his leg badly during production and had to work through his pain. He explained €œWell I wasn€™t going to lose that cheque, so I kept going!€ That sums up his involvement with the film, a brain-dead sci-fi actioner where his futuristic soldier is cast away on a remote planet, and he must defend his new family when his old unit returns to wipe them out. Russell got paid around $15 million for the role, yet his character speaks less than a hundred words throughout. This could have made for an interesting character part; one conveyed through emotion and body language, but since the film around him is a dull action movie there€™s no time to explore any of that. Russell certainly looks the part, having trained for over a year to sculpt his body for the role, but he€™s wasted on such a blank slate of a character. The only positive is that Russell is such a classy guy that he offered to refund his fee to the studio after Soldier bombed; they politely declined. Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
