Kurt Wimmer Writing SALT Sequel For Angelina Jolie

Despite only making $8 million in domestic profit from an $100 million take, it's veteran director Phillip Noyce (who should take all the praise for making the original passable) already turning down the opportunity to return, the movie only being so-so reviewed by critics, and in most audiences eyes being an entertaining but instantly forgettable action thriller (is anyone crying out for another?) - Sony are pushing ahead with a sequel to Salt. Deadline reports that Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, forthcoming Total Recall) has been hired to once again write an outrageous scenario for Angelina Jolie's feisty and outed Russian spy, an actress who hasn't ruled out doing a sequel but is cautiously waiting to see what the script is like (though remember she did agree to star in the silly original and The Tourist last year so her barometer for quality is a little suspect). No word on what story specifics will be but I imagine it'll require Jolie to wear several different wigs and for character allegiances of the supporting players to go back-and-forth from good to bad frequently like a season of 24. Having said that the original was fun in a 'leave your brain at home' kind of way and Jolie is just about the only female action hero who could have made it work. Rather a sequel to this than The Tourist, eh?
