Last Night In Soho Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The Excellent Ensemble Cast

Beyond Thomasin McKenzie and Diana Rigg, the film may not quite tout a stacked cast on the level of some of Wright's previous films, but it's still a fantastic ensemble.

Of particular note is Terence Stamp as a lecherous elderly gentleman who becomes an unnerving acquaintance of Ellie's while she works at Soho's pub The Toucan, and Matt Smith as Jack, the enigmatic manager of budding singer Sandy (Anya Taylor-Joy) in the 1960s segments.

Though Taylor-Joy's role is surprisingly thin all things considered - she doesn't actually get to say all that much - she's nevertheless perfectly cast as the gorgeous bombshell trying to make it big amid a throng of gross men.

As Ellie's classmates at the fashion institute, Synnøve Karlsen and Michael Ajao also turn in fine work as the infuriatingly bitchy Jocasta and Ellie's easy-going love interest John.

Wright has always proven himself a dab hand where casting is concerned, and his latest film sure doesn't break the streak.
