Last Night In Soho Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

5. Edgar Wright's Intoxicating Direction

Last Night in Soho Edgar Wright

Last Night in Soho may be Edgar Wright's worst film, but that doesn't mean he doesn't still demonstrate why he's such a damn talented filmmaker. For all the script's flaws, Wright's reputation as a skilled stylist and actors' director is very much in tact.

This is an absolute feast of a movie to consume from an aesthetic perspective, Wright corralling the cinematography, editing, costumes, production design, music, and sound design together in outstanding concert.

Combine this with his ability to get the most out of his cast, and even when it doesn't fully work, this is hardly a movie you'd ever call boring or uninteresting.

Even less-good Edgar Wright is still the work of a singular auteur doing his thing - he couldn't make an anonymous, generic movie if he tried.
