Last Night In Soho Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

4. Diana Rigg's Fantastic Final Role

Last Night in Soho Diana Rigg

The film opens with a "for Diana" title card, paying tribute to the late, great Diana Rigg, who sadly passed away shortly after completing her role in the film.

And to say that Rigg goes out with an outstanding final performance is quite the understatement indeed. Though Rigg's presence as Ellie's landlady Ms. Collins has largely been downplayed in the marketing, she ends up having a surprisingly substantial role, and steals basically every scene she's in.

As the spunky old lady who rents a room out to Ellie, Rigg doesn't merely stop by for a cute wink-wink cameo - she's playing a full-bodied character who has a number of amusing interactions with her tenant throughout the film.

It's not sentimental to say that Rigg gives perhaps the best performance in the entire film, and certainly one befitting her inestimable legacy. RIP Diana.
