The Last Of Us Movie: 10 Actresses Who Could Play Ellie

9. Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning has spent the better part of the last ten years developing a solid reputation for herself as the go-to child actress for glossy (yet often shallow) mainstream blockbusters. She's starred in huge films, alongside some of the most respected male Hollywood superstars of all time; Tom Cruise in War Of The Worlds and Denzel Washington in Man On Fire etc. Critically, her most lauded performance came three years before even those, aged 7 in I Am Sam. She's practically done it all and succeeded. But a lot of time has passed since those glory days. As a 20 year old, she's already accomplished much more than a lot of actresses double her age. As a result, her talents have developed and - as proven in more recent films such as Effie Gray, Very Good Girls and Now Is Good - she's grown into a decent adult actress. But who's to say that she couldn't regress a few years - draw upon the experience of working with Hollywood's top leading men - and pull off the part of Ellie in The Last Of Us? If she were cast, there's no doubt she would be able to portray at least some of Ellie's traits, most likely the more fragile, naïve ones. Should the film be made as a flashy over-the-top polished blockbuster, and the team were casting on name alone, Dakota would have no trouble whatsoever fitting in. But as proven with her more recent career, if it ended up being much more stylish and subtle (just as it should), she'd likely be just as good and maybe €“ just maybe - pretty great.
