Joel's voice actor Troy Baker has recently stated that he would like to see Josh Brolin portray the character on the big screen, which is a very wise choice, and I am kicking myself for not thinking of him originally. Baker spent considerable time voicing and motion capturing the character so if anybody knows what it would take to play Joel, it would be him. He may be onto something too because I honestly think that Brolin would absolutely own the role. Growing up on a ranch during his early years and considering that his mother originated from Texas, Brolin has those roots flowing through him, which could add a feel of authenticity to the character considering that Joel is a Texan in the game. That, combined with his already intimidating presence, would make for a perfect cinematic version of Joel. Brolin is a long time veteran of the industry and has shown that he is more than capable of handling dramatic roles. Films like Milk and No Country for Old Men prove that he has great range and that he can turn up the intensity when the part calls for it. He has also excelled in movies that require him to kick ass, such as Gangster Squad and Oldboy, so there is no question that the Oscar nominated actor would not only be able to accurately portray Joel's ruthlessness, but the dramatic side of the character as well.
