The Last Of Us Movie: 15 Key Scenes We Need To See

7. Sarah's Death

If this scene is done right, it will be what glues watchers to their seats from the very beginning. The game doesn't hold back on its gruesome details and neither should the film. The death of Joel's daughter, Sarah, does a few things that end up being very important to the story much later on. First off, it causes emotional turbulence between Joel and Ellie because she is the person who ends up filling the long-vacant void of his daughter. It's also important because Sarah died at the hands of the military, not the outbreak. Her death was avoidable and had the soldier not been given the orders to shoot at people who weren't bitten, his daughter could still be by his side. It taught Joel that he needed to be in small groups and not join the military or the firefly resistance because both were extremely flawed. The shots of the town being destroyed around Joel, Tommy and Sarah need to be very close to or even duplicated from the game. Some of the more prominent shots include Joel's infected neighbour breaking into his house and the farm burning to the ground as the three try to escape. Tommy's decision to not pick up the family stranded on the side of the road would be a nice addition to the movie too by showing that he only cares for his loved ones and that he doesn't think he can trust any outsiders.

Hey, I'm Brandon. I love writing and reading and I study journalism, communication studies and business at the University of Rhode Island. My main passions are sports, music, TV, movies and a lot of other things that would take me way too long to write. WhatCulture is a great place for me to express myself so I'm looking to write as much as I can. Thanks for reading my work.
