Le Mans '66 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
4. The Fantastic Ensemble Cast
Outside of Bale and Damon, Le Mans '66 boasts one of the year's strongest ensemble casts, an embarrassment of riches with the entire lot getting their fair share of screen time.
The easy standout is Tracy Letts, who as Ford CEO Henry Ford II is a deliciously entertaining mix of fiery businessman and man-child stuffed into an expensive suit. Letts underplays the part to avoid making Ford a pure cartoon, but he gets several of the film's biggest laughs.
Jon Bernthal is also very good as Ford VP Lee Iacocca, essentially serving as the put-upon intermediary between Ford and Damon's Shelby. He's probably not the first actor you'd think of for a role like this, but he makes good on his usual gruff charm.
Elsewhere, Noah Jupe is a delight as Miles' son, and shares several of the movie's most poignant scenes opposite Bale, while Caitriona Balfe is typically solid as Miles' frustrated wife Mollie.
That's not to forget Italian character actor Remo Girone, who does a wonderful job playing an old Enzo Ferrari in several key scenes.
