LEGO Batman Movie: 75 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

33. Gleaming The Cube

In easily the weirdest Easter Egg in the entire film, when Robin skateboards his way through the Fortress of Solitude’s security system around the Phantom Zone Projector, the phrase “gleaming the cube” is mentioned, which comes from the title of a 1989 skateboarding movie starring Christian Slater that probably none of the LEGO Batman audience will have seen.

The phrase means to push yourself to new limits, if you're interested.

32. Chris McKay's Cameos

Director Chris McKay makes a couple of appearances in the film: first he's the pilot that encounters Joker at the very start, and he also provides Batman's crazy laugh. His take on the laugh was initially supposed to just be a placeholder while Will Arnett's laugh was being recorded, but it worked so it was never changed.

He also gives a cameo to his Editing buddy David Burrows (who he worked with on The LEGO Movie), who plays Anchorman Phil.

31. The Fortress Of Solitude (And Marlon Brando)

Superman Marlon Brando

The Fortress Of Solitude is clearly based on the same design as was introduced in the original Superman movie, right down to the mysterious Kryptonian crystals chamber where Batman starts pulling crystals away to turn off the security system. As he's doing it, a LEGO version of Marlon Brando's Jor-El appears temporarily before Batman loses his information forever.
